Baby Loss Support Group

groupTabitha’s Trust Support Groups, for any adult family member who has been affected by the loss of a baby

Our Pregnancy & Baby Loss Support Group, is aimed at any adult who has experienced the loss of a baby. We encourage men and women, including couples to attend. Offering group support to those affected by early pregnancy loss to early infancy deaths.

Because Tabitha’s Trust provides support to families who have lost children up to the age of 16 years, we feel that creating groups with a dedicated age range is the most beneficial way to move forward. We will be looking to develop Support Groups for other age groups, in the near future. Thank you for understanding.

What can you expect from the Support Group?

The Group is facilitated by Trustee Victoria, who not only has experience of child bereavement, but has taken a Group Facilitation Course with CBUK (Child Bereavement UK) so has the skill set to run the group effectively. The group will be co-facilitated by a small number of volunteers, who’s roles include midwives, bereaved parents and counsellors.

You can expect a relaxed, non judgemental environment, where everyone attending has also been affected by the loss of a child.  Whether your loss was recent, or a long time ago, you are more than welcome to join us and meet other adults who are able to understand your experience on a deeper level. We will have a structure to our groups, and will introduce varied activities during some sessions. We may some therapeutic crafts set up, so that you can enjoy creating simple keepsakes if you want or need a break from the group chat. We have a few guest speakers who have already agreed to come along to different sessions, to share their experience of loss and hope, talk about their profession or services available to bereaved families.  It is important to remember and talk about our children, and it is also important to work on self-care. The Support Groups are there to encourage growth and health discussion. We will ensure that any additional help or support needed by attendees is met, either through Tabitha’s Trust or sourced from another organisation or charity.

There will also be our new Book Lending Scheme, which is free for Support Group members. And looked after by one of our valued volunteers’ Rachael. You will be able to browse the books we have available and borrow them for as long as you like. Titles will cover loss from a parents perspective, as well as siblings and grandparents. All of the titles have been recommended by local bereaved families, and some of them included in the Out Reach Project completed in January 2016. The Out Reach Project, funded by a generous donation from Ballakermeen High School, saw Tabitha’s Trust donating over 200 books and resources to all of the Island’s schools and public libraries.
